Have you ever had car trouble? I sure have and it is certainly not something you can plan for. When I was a student driving an absolute bomb of a car, not long before the summer break my engine light started to come on. At first, it was intermittent but then it became constant and this is when I started to notice that something just wasn’t running quite right.
Eventually, I ended up taking to my mechanic who got stuck in, replaced a part and things were back and running smoothly again.
Now you may be wondering how this relates to chiropractic…
It doesn't matter if you are riding around in a 1950's classics or a 2000's hybrid, that engine light turning on is merely a SYMPTOM it's not the CAUSE of the car troubles. The same is true and can be said for our bodies.
We all experience symptoms from time to time whether it be a headache, stomach ache or any other ache/pain and these symptoms are just like your engine light turning on letting you now know that something just isn’t quite right. More often than not symptoms can build up completely unnoticed over time and once they hit a certain threshold they will really make themselves known.
As frustrating as symptoms can be, they are often just the tip of the iceberg with a bigger problem or cause underlying. As Chiropractors, our focus is not on your symptoms (although we will always take them into consideration) but on getting to the underlying cause.
Thankfully our bodies have the ability to heal all by themselves!
Whether it’s a cut or graze externally or damage to muscles, ligaments or bone internally these structures are all able to repair and heal under the right circumstances.
Chiropractic's primary focus is to ensure the connection between your brain and body is working at its best, so your body is able to deal with any imbalances before symptoms become apparent – before your engine light comes on.
Many people who are under chiropractic care are coming in for, what we call, maintenance care to keep their body functioning at the absolute best. Much like getting your car serviced to make sure it can get you from A to B with the slimmest chance of a breakdown.
